Thinking of heading out on a solo trip for the first time? Check this blog out for some of the destinations that you can add to your list as a first time solo traveler.

Solo travel I feel is a must have experience for every individual to discover their true potential and here are some destinations which you can check out as a first timer which are absolutely safe and would not make you too much overwhelmed with what it has to offer.


Pondicherry:

Just 150 odd kms from Chennai, This makes a perfect weekend getaway for anyone in Chennai and definitely safe for solo travelers. This union territory has a lot to offer, starting from its rock beaches, the international township of Auroville, the many hidden beaches which are amazing to chill as well as indulge in some watersports activities. Do not miss the white town of Pondicherry which is the neighborhood around the rock beach area.

Ooty/Coonur:

This beautiful hill station situated on the nilgiri mountain ranges, though heavily commercialized still has a lot of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Filled with all the necessary amenities they are also absolutely safe and ideal for first time solo travelers.

Kerala:

Kerala as a state has a lot to offer with varied landscapes, all easily accessible and affordable to travel and eat. Starting from the beaches of Varkala in the south to Bekal in the north which are amazing winter getaways, The beautiful hill stations of Vagamon, Munnar, Wayanad also make it ideal to visit in the summer. The stunning backwaters of Allepey and Kumarakom as well as some off beat backwaters in the southern and northern Kerala also are some landscapes you can find only in Kerala.

Coorg/Chikmagalur:

The South Indian state of Karnataka also has a lot to offer, Chill in the mountains of Chikmagalur or Coorg during the summers. Check out the beautiful ruins of Hampi during the winters. all these destinations in Karnataka make for amazing solo travel destinations.

The ancient Dravidian temples of Tamilnadu:

The temple towns of Tamil Nadu these days draw a huge number of youngsters everyday. Apart from the spiritually inclined ones there are also so many who are intrigued by the history of the temple which are all several centuries or even thousands of years old. These destinations are ideal to visit on all times of the year and are again absolutely safe for even solo travelers. Yes it is good to check google and keep yourself updated about the temple festivals and special occasions which draw a huge number of devotees and hence make it difficult for tourists to explore the temple. Some of these destinations are Kumbakonam, Tanjore, Madurai, Kanchipuram and several other parts of Tamil Nadu.

Yes all the destinations mentioned here are in south of India, many of which I have personally traveled to and felt it would be ideal for a first timer who has decided to step out of their comfort zone and travel solo at whatever age. Nothing Against the other parts of the country but I personally feel these places are good to start and gain some confidence before exploring other areas as it could get a little overwhelming.
