Hey there!! hope you all are doing great!! back here with yet another Travel blog, this time from our long weekend getaway to Coorg, AKA the Scotland of East. Since both of us had pretty much seen everything in Coorg this was mostly going to be a staycation. I had planned this getaway for the 14th of April (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) way back in the mid of January so that I don't miss out on the good stay options available within a decent budget!!

We stayed in a coffee estate which also had about 5 to 6 cottages located in the Siddhapur region of Coorg and its a quaint and beautiful property looking just like the pictures shown online. My agenda was to escape the Chennai heat and stay within the resort and have fun, exploring the plantations, fields and other fun stuff within our place of stay, but the climate had entirely different plans for us. Though it was a welcome change from our routine and we enjoyed the peace and quite the Chennai climate seemed to have followed us all the way to coorg.

Coming to the place we stayed at (Estate stay river side coffee), located on the banks of river Kaveri. Its a coffee plantation of around 55 acers with around 4 to 5 cottages for guests to stay in, Like I already said the place looks like a dream and the cottages are so cozy and quaint, all nestled among the endless green plantations around it. I can not even imagine how it must be feeling to stay here in the monsoon or winters, how beautiful must everything look and feel then, but the climate this time around was so bad that we were profusely sweating and without the breeze setting in it was quite sweltering in the day.

Would I recommend this stay:

Yes I would recommend this stay for sure but there are a few terms and conditions attached about which ill come to later. Ill start off with the positives, now this estate is so pretty quaint and Instagrammable and in terms of looks it ticks off probably every box in your check list.

The rooms are simple but functional and sustainable which is another plus point, They have RO purified waters served in glass bottles in the room which you can get refilled at any time during your stay. The rooms are decently lit and are clean and hygienic too which is again another amazing thing about this place.

Now I thoroughly researched all these points and choose this property and I read through all the reviews in trip advisor, booking.com, google and agoda and it really seemed to be the only one around with maximum positive reviews

Food here:

If you are a vegetarian and are someone who misses the simple home cooked food while you travel, this one is for you, I just loved their food. all basic vegetarian food items cooked after checking with us if we will be available for the meal, they also prepare something special for the baby if needed which was also very thoughtful of them. Not only was the food tasty but the oil, spice and salt was also just the right amount and I can vouch for the fact that this food would be absolutely easy on your tummy. (Some of the things I loved there - Filter coffee, Cold coffee, their pipping hot Gulab Jamun and their Carrot cheese cake)

Who would I not recommend it to:

I would not recommend this stay to anyone who is coming to Coorg on a tighter budget and also with the intention of checking out every place out there in coorg. If that is your intention I would rather recommend you stay in Madikeri. This place is not very close to all the touristy destinations in coorg and also is pretty away from other restaurants and coffee shops in the town.

I would also not recommend this stay if your someone who expects your coffee and food on the dot. The staffs are pretty skeletal and up until they arrive there is nothing you would get except for the tea packets and a kettle in your room. Coffee and breakfast starts as late as 8.30 am and Lunch by 1 pm and dinner by 8.30 pm. While this is written down they sometimes start even later than that and if you are someone particular about your time or can not control your hunger then this place is not for you.

The Downside:

The downside of this resort like I have already mentioned is their extremely lethargic attitude. They are pretty clear that they do not cater to guests on a schedule. With just two boys manning the front office, coffee shop and house keeping all the time there is only so much they can do. So like I already said if you have packed your day with things to do and places to see then almost all morning would go away in waiting for your coffee and breakfast. On the day of check out we had a train to catch at 1 pm from Mysore and these guys did not serve breakfast or start check out formalities until 9 am which also happened after repeated reminders and questioning from our end. So another point to make note of is, never book your flight or train in the afternoon if you want to stay here or your last morning would mostly be spent firing the staff for not doing anything on time.

So if you are also on a slow staycation, with a very flexible schedule and nothing much planned I would totally recommend this stay as it really is amazing, if only they added some more staff they could be much more proactive. We could not even really blame the staff there who were struggling to balance everything and do their best. And yes most importantly drive in and out on your own or book your self on a train or flight as late as possible so that you can complete your breakfast and check out formalities and leave on time, taking in all the beauty of the resort one last time.

This is it about our stay, another blog from this trip coming up about some things we did in coorg this time!!
