3 Days in Allepey - Beaches and backwaters best of both worlds!!

If you are planning to visit Kerala, I hope that a visit to the Venice of east is definitely on your list. If its not I hope that this post convinces you to add it. This is not an itinerary but just Allepey from my eyes.

Mostly commercial tourists spend just 2 days in Allepey but then there is so much that this place has so much to offer be it the clean beaches or the stunning backwaters and so many many things to do. So its entirely your choice if you want to spend 1 day or 10 days in this paradise.

This is my second visit to Allepey, the first one being almost 9 years ago, back then I had gone to a much less crowded and more offbeat Allepey, I had also stayed in a proper houseboat and experienced life among the backwaters. This time I picked Allepey as Ananth had never been to the backwaters and, this would be the ideal season to visit it. We booked our self at a beach resort in Mararikulam, just 14 kms from the town of Allepey and went on a 3 hour Shikara ride around the backwaters.

I am listing below some things to do in this beautiful one of a kind destination.

The Backwaters: Well the backwaters have a host of sights and experiences to offer depending on when you visit this town and most of the hard core commercial tourists limit their Allepey visit to these backwaters which itself is a world on its own.

Explore this region on a houseboat or a Shikara or a public boat which would give you a true taste of the local life. Life works differently in this part of the world so don't forget to interact with as many locals as possible when you explore this region and really learn something new!!

A beach resort/ homestay: The nearest beach to Allepey is at the Mararikulam and there are host of beach resorts in all budgets with private beaches available for you to pick and choose. we stayed at the Azure tides beach resort, a very beautiful option for a decent budget

Rejuvenate your mind and body with an ayurvedic spa: Kerala is full of Ayurvedic spa options and Allepey is no exception, These spa sessions are truly healing and focus on your overall wellness.

Awaken your spiritual soul: Allepey is home to some of the most beautiful temples and churches in Kerala, The Ambalapuzha Sri Krishna temple and so many churches with add to the beauty of the already stunning town on the banks of the backwaters.

A sunset like no other on the beaches of Mararikulam: Mararikulam in the Allepey district of Kerala has some of the most inviting beaches with turquoise blue waters and white sands. The public beach is as spotless and attractive as the private resort beaches and a sunset here is something not to be missed.
